Construction of Bills of Materials with Smap3D Piping

3D-CAD-Software for pipeline planning - Smap3D Piping - Bill of materialIn plant planning and construction, bills of materials (BOMs), next to P&ID flow charts and isometric drawings belong to the most important documents. BOMs with a variety of different content are needed for a multiplicity of tasks.

  • In the run-up to plant planning, bills of materials provide process accounting and calculations
  • Should the plant planning be advanced or complete, bills of materials provide the basis for ordering correct materials and amounts as well as production control (e.g. blank lists and welding piece lists).

For pipelines constructed with Smap3D Piping, all information relevant to plant construction is provided for bills of materials. The BOMs can be produced in different ways:


BOM production with supporting CAD system base functions

Standard evaluations can be implemented using the standard functions of supporting CAD systems. They provide good 3D-assembly unit analysis options, based on their physical content and structure.

The main standard assessment criterium is in this case the data name or the configuration name. The result however, always reflects the content and structure of the 3D assembly unit at a ratio of 1:1, as created in contruction and planning. Using the standard functions, a sustainable change and /or extention of the result is either difficult or even impossible to carry out.

BOM production via isometric drafting

3D-CAD-Software for pipeline planning - Smap3D Piping - Bill of materialIn isometric drafting, BOMs can be recognised and processed by integrated ISOGEN®. The most varied BOMs (e.g. material, blank or welding piece lists) can, in this way, be automatically, and optionally, issued either on the design and/or as ASCII-Data, issued to the inventory control system.

Ten pre-configured styles including pre-configured BOM samples are included in delivery. These can be used immediately, altered or adapted to suit individual requirements, with the included functions of ISOGEN® I-Configure.

BOM production with Smap3D BOM

Should the standard functions of supported CAD systems not be sufficient for the necessary plant production-specific BOMs, and should there be no pipe system isometries used, any kind of necessary BOM evaluation can be produced using Smap3D BOM.

Just some of the possibilities using Smap3D BOM

  • Automatic evaluation of actual pipe lengths
  • Automatic evaluation of adapted bend angles (sloping gradients)
  • Automatic evaluation of any filtered parts lists (e.g. only machines and apparatus, only fittings, or only pipelines).

  • Personal user-specific evaluation can be memorised and thereby quickly and easily re-used.
  • Existing evaluations are automatically updated on alteration to the 3D-assembly unit.
  • BOM-relevant data can be merged from various sources, e.g. geometry from the CAD system and metadata from the inventory control system (e.g. SAP).
